Doyle Adventures

books by Peter Reese Doyle

adventure

noun. an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity.
“The children sat spellbound as their grandfather recalled his African safari adventure.”

Peter Reese Doyle grew up captivated by the adventures stories told by his father, an Admiral in the US Navy. When he became a father, he regaled his own children with tales of thrilling adventures during their daily school commute. They begged him, “Write these stories down for your grandchildren!”

So in the 1990’s, he did just that! His Daring Adventure Series, in which 3 teenagers encounter dangers of every sort and learn to face them with courage and skill, were originally published by Focus on the Family and sold over 250,000 copies.

Wanting future generations to know the story of our nation’s founding and to understand the principles for which our forefathers fought, he took up his pen again. The Independence Series is historical adventure at its best, told through the eyes of teens who lived through, and fought for, the Constitutional Republic which emerged from their victory. They meet great leaders and statesmen and exhibit honorable, brave, and virtuous character qualities, encountering action packed adventure at almost every turn!

The Independence Series

Nathan and Andrew begin their adventures in what Americans would come to call their War of Independence. The pair of friends and their brothers and sisters grow to adulthood as the Colonies wage war to keep intact their political and religious liberties, which were being threatened by an increasingly tyrannical English Parliament.

In the first book, the two boys ride with Virginia Militiamen led by Patrick Henry in his historic confrontation with the British Governor. In the second, Nathan and Andrew find themselves in the Battle of Bunker Hill. The third book leads to the story of a small but critical battle in Virginia. The fourth tells of the epic defense of Charleston by a small Patriot fort that out-shot and drove off British warships in a day-long battle. The fifth depicts the incredible (and very true!) naval battle led by General Benedict Arnold on Lake Chaplain—which some historians say saved the Revolution. The sixth book describes Washington’s desperate attack at Trenton and its momentous results. Lord willing, succeeding volumes will take us at last to Washington’s glorious victory at Yorktown, which sealed the success of the Colonies’ War for Independence.

In each volume, the conversations of characters explain the historically accurate reasons for the war, the Biblically based liberties for which it was fought, and the incredible courage and suffering and valor of a civilian culture and its voluntary armies.
